i aint never really played golf, other than mini-golf.but something i started doing to have some fun is to set up targets around my property to shoot at from a set place.i have 8 "holes" set up now.some are drink cans suspended from tree limbs.others are steel plates hung on fence posts,or trees.one is a old metal funnel with the small end cut off to make it a little bigger hole.then thers is a small steel pate behind it.you have to shoot through the funnel just right to ring the plate.i have spots marked to shoot from at every "hole" and made up par for each one based on my skill.(some are par 5 holes).in the evenings i grab a pocket full of ammo and my flip and head out for a nice walk and a round of golf.so i have a way to keep score to see if i am improving, and all the targets make noise when you hit them so i get that instant auditory gratification.

That is a great idea. I heard someone on the forum talk about playing tennis. I played skimmer49 and he beat me bad. I like the auditory reward. Sounds like a lot of fun.

Goatfarmer,
Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!
Your very clearly understood terminology of
"instant auditory gratification"
must be entered in the "Official Slingshot Glossary" !
Please contact "Flatband" and recommend it's inclusion in his glossary - it's a winner of an expression.

REM49,
It's not a book, but a glossary of slingshooting term. He's the Merriam-Webster of the slingshot world.
And, BTW, he has a terrific band called the "Flats"
Ask (him), and ye shall receive.

i'm glad that you like that term.it came up years ago when my son and i would shoot hanging steel targets with a .22.he said "i like it alot when it goes DING!,dad".i told him that it was instant auditory gratification, and it stuck.and sometimes you can find a good use for it outside of shooting.

Goatfarmer,
There you go again!
"Ding!Dad" is also meritous. It has a sing-song quality about it.
Are you an unsung poet? : )

Do you actually spend the time to look for your ball after each shot? Or do you simply shoot from the area where that shot hit the ground with a fresh ball? Seems like most of the time would be spent looking for ammo on the ground.
Or do you simply shoot repeatedly from the mark (tee box) until you hit the target and count the number of attempts as strokes?

I don't know how he does it but weren't you saying you paint your ammo flourescent orange? That would make it easier to find.

i usually use buckshot or marbles for my ammo.i shoot at a target until i ring it and count it as strokes.i dont worry about retrieving ammo out in the woods or pasture.that'd run a feller crazy.i do,how ever have a trap that i practice with that i can easily recover my ammo from.

Goatfarmer, (Man, I just love that handle!)
You're absolutely right, no need to drive a feller crazy whose lost his marbles. (Huh?)
Train the dog to retrieve.

Goatfarmer,
I had the same problem. The guys at the Cooperative Extensive told me I should have been using goat fertilizer instead of bull----.
