We have a neighbor down the street that isn't to nice. They have a big pit bull that runs loose and will attack people. It has already done a lot of damage to one guys leg.
One week ago while I was making led balls the dog charged me. I placed a hard shot right on his nose, You would thank I was killing him with all the yelping.
Now the dog stays in his yard and runs like the devil when he sees me.

We have our neighbor hood back!!!!! Ha Ha Ha.:):):):)

Good for you!
I am a Pit Bull owner myself, i do not encourage aggressive behavior and i have spent time training my dog to obey my commands. it is a shame when i hear about other Pit Bull owners who have not been responsible with the training and care of their dog. owning a naturally aggressive breed of dog is alot more responsibility than most people are ready for and because of that the dog breed gets a bad name. glad to hear you have gotten your neighborhood back, the dog should not have been allowed to roam free in the first place and animal control should have been notified, there are people out there willing to rehabilitate the more aggressive dogs. sorry to sound preach-y but i just love pit bulls, they are intelligent, loving and strong dogs that when properly cared for and trained are the best pets anyone could ask for!

Aggressive dogs allowed to roam free is a real hot button issue with me. I am experiencing a visceral response having read Roland's post.

I have been bitten and have had family members bitten.

People allowing a dog known to bite to wander around a neighborhood should be locked up and the dog taken away or put down. End of story. This is a serious issue.

OK... off my soap box now.

Glad to hear you got the "hood" back!:D I was not a fan of pit bulls until I got my "grand-dog" (skimmer49's dog). That dog is fantastic. It listens and does not need to be petted all the time. I keep saying that that is a "man's dog" :D.
As for retro's comment I too hate loose dogs. I unicycle around 10 -15 miles at a time in the summer and dogs would chase me. I finally found something that works. It is called a "doggy dazer" bought it on ebay and I love it. It emits that high frequency that only dogs can hear and stops them. Pretty cool.

You guys really hit a nerve with the " aggressive dogs " stories. I have 2 Yorkshire Terriers-brothers. I walk them all the time and my eyes are constantly scanning for loose dogs. I've had 2 Pit Bulls come after me and a few other breeds. They might think my little guys are cats,I don't know. Once I just grabbed both little guys and held them up so the dog couldn't get them. The other time I ran behind a fence. I have a real problem with people who don't leash their dogs and also that don't clean up after them. If you don't want the responsibility of dog ownership then get another TV. I have one Idiot that has a fence with no gate and he has 2 Pits running loose in side the yard! They have chased people that were walking their dogs-me included.I look at things the other way,it's not the animal,it's the owner, they need to be trained! Flatband:)

Rem49,

I used to unicycle a lot. Haven't ridden one in 25 years, however. I would probably just break my arm if I tried now :)

More recently, I took up recumbent bicycles. That puts you closer to the ground so the snarling dog is snapping at your face instead of your ankles  I had one of the dazers and it worked on most dogs, but there were a few that it just seemed to anger... Be careful out there.

Skimmer49,

I'm glad you have a well trained, good mannered dog. We need more responsible owners like you.

I agree that a dog is only as dangerous as its owner. It is the responsibility of the owner to control a dogs actions and any aggressive actions of a pet should result in a penalty of the owner. We have had a number of deaths from pitbulls in Australia, most often the children of the owners. The result of which is the virtual banning of the breed. While this may not seem fair it is an unfortunate reflection of the pitbull owners, at least in Australia.

Still, at least they don't ride a recumbent bicycle.

Just kidding. ;)

Once I rode my recumbent by a friend's house and his daughter said, "Daddy, look at that old man on the clown bike".

I got the recumbent because I had back problems, but still wanted to try to stay in shape. It is a very comfortable bike, but it does look silly :D

If my son would pay attention to his kind father, he would have noticed I sold the recumbent a year ago:o. I got it for my back too but I did not like being so low in traffic areas.
