I did some reading and found that the dangers from lead poisoning can be serious. Soooo, I have begun to spray paint all my lead balls with a fluorescent orange paint to limit my contamination. I just dump 100+ into a butter dish and spray and shake until they are mostly covered and then let them dry and do it again. The color also makes it easier to find them when they bounce out of my target box. Be sure to wash hands well after using lead.

You should have used up some old lead based paint to paint your lead.

Is there any reason to shoot lead other than for hunting?
I prefer lead becouse i´s less prom to ricochet after hit hard surfaces=safer  always wear glasses on:D

I always use lead because of richochet too. I stopped using steel balls when one missed the backstop, hit the wall and shot back at me at high speed. Luckily it did not hit me in the face, or the eye.
The only bad thing about lead is the toxic. Got to be very careful. :(

And, I have a lot of old scrap lead and wheel weights from my bullet casting days - soooo, cast lead balls are a LOT cheaper than marbles or steel balls. And, they DO shoot GOOD and riccochet less. Just be aware of the hazards and take pains to prevent contamination.
