i just got a Hawk and have been practicing with it like a fiend
today the pouch broke but the bands are fine
can i just cut a pouch out of leather/nubuck etc. and reinstall without tying?
thinking of just making a channel cut on each end of the pouch and threading the bands through so that the pouch floats on the bands.
thanks much.

I don't think you'll like the results if you do it that way Wil. You can't get a good grip on the pouch if the tube is behind it and being stretched. Cut the pouch with 2 little prongs coming out and stick it inside the tube and then tie it off real good. Give it a try that way or if you have a few of the Trumark clips it's a cinch to put on a new pouch. Flatband:)

hey thanks flat
sorry if that was confusing
i meant would it be ok if i cut a new pouch like the old saunders pouch and attached the band by passing it through the cut but NOT behind the pouch
so that the band went back up to make 2 ply at the fork.
i dont know if that will pull on the leather in a bad way or change the accuracy compared to the plastic rig on saunders set up.
basically im trying to replace as few things as possible.
thanks again!

I think it should work. If not, then use cut the long "double bands" in wto normal ones and attach them with a piece of soft cotton string in the traditional fashion.

It should work OK or you could just pass it doubled thtough the pouch and tie it like this. Bill Herriman

no worries flat thanks for the help
btw i actually tried to replace the pouch with a clear section of plastic soda bottle
it looked cool being clear and all but it broke on the first draw!
i figure the plastic at the cut area was too weak
maybe ill try again with 2 ply since it was nice looking for about 5 seconds...
thanks
